Christmas and La Grande Arche

Christmas morning.

After pressies and breakfast, we walked to La Grande Arche de La Défense.

Scott, Robin and Allie rode the elevator to the top of La Grande Arche. Sidney and I stayed on the ground.

Views from the top

Above is a good view of the Voie Triomphale (Triumphal Way) which extends east-to-west in a perfectly straight line from the former royal palace (now the Louvre Museum), past the Arc du Carrousel and through the Tuileries Gardens, Place de la Concorde, up the Champs-Elysées to the Arc de Triomphe, and now culminating at the Grande Arche. The structure in the centre of the avenue near the Grande Arche is the underground metro station which is near the flat we were in.

We stopped for drinks at Bistrot de L’Arche, bought a phone card and called Bob and Nancy from a pay phone in the metro station.

We returned on the Metro.

Back at the flat, we prepared Christmas dinner which was finished with Buche de Noel from Le Notre.
