Andiamo in Italia

Translation: Let’s go to Italy. This could be the title of many of my posts.

This time will be a bit different. This trip was to be with Scott–past tense. But he had to cancel travelling in order to attend to his health. So, on rather short notice, I am going solo for the entire trip.

Unusual for me, my plans are not entirely settled. I start by flying into Leonardo da Vinci airport in Fiumicino (which is Rome’s airport but outside of Rome). I will go directly to Tivoli for a few nights. Our original plan after Tivoli was to take the overnight train from Rome to Sicily, but visiting Sicily is now postponed. The image at the top was our planned route.

Instead I will stay in Rome for some Italian language and Roman art history classes. After Rome, my itinerary is not entirely settled but will include an art history tour in Siena and a Caravaggio tour. As well, there are a few art exhibitions in other Italian cities that I want to see which I might accomplish as day trips.

This will be my 14th trip to Italy of which eight have been (at least in part) solo. By my count, I have slept 233 nights in Italy and will be adding 50 more as well as some nights in London. I hope one of these days I will have been in Italy for over 365 nights. I’m not ready to quit visiting Il Bel Paese.
