Easter Sunday

Finally back to some sunshine. The guide books say that half of Madrid heads to Plaza Mayor on Easter Sunday so we decided to take a look.

We got to the Plaza and saw people queuing up for something.

At noon, a drum band marched into the Plaza.

The drums and brass instruments played for about an hour while we had some drinks and a bit of lunch. Then Ronnie and Kim had to head for the airport to return to Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, we headed to Park del Oeste or West Park to look at the Temple of Debod, an ancient Egyptian temple removed because of the building of the Aswan Dam.

interesting looking building
not sure if this was a church

The temple was closed until later in the evening.
The park had views of the Palacio Real.

We walked to Plaza Espana.

Edifico Espana, which is being made into luxury residences.

We went to some markets but they were closed.

We then went to an Irish pub to watch Arsenal play Manchester City.  Scott left very happy because Arsenal won.  Then it was back to the flat to pack and get ready to leave for Barcelona.

We discovered we had all got a bit sunburned. Despite the cool air temperatures, the sun is strong.
