Heading to Edinburgh

We left Calgary at 6:25 p.m. on March 23, 2006, tried to sleep most of the way over, and arrived in Heathrow terminal 3 at 10 a.m.. We had to get to terminal 1 for our BMI flight to Edinburgh. On the flight over, we were with Allie’s soccer coach and a team of Calgary Celtic players. We left London at 1:20 p.m. and landed at 2 p.m. in Edinburgh. Some of us snoozed some more.

We picked up our bags and heading outside to the taxi queue.

We stayed at the Caledonian Hotel, now part of the Hilton chain, but originally a railway hotel. It’s supposed to be Sean Connery’s favourite place to stay when he’s in Edinburgh. There’s a photo of him in the reception area of the hotel. We had a double double room which was at the end of one of the longest hallways ever.

The room was on the 5th floor so we had a view of the Castle, Calton Hill and Princes Street Gardens.

We went outside to get some fresh air and wait for Robin.

Sidney was especially impatient to see Robin and jumped on him as soon as he exited the taxi.

We walked down Princes St. to Waterstones for maps and books, then to Marks & Spencer for snacks. Ended up at Jenners for wine and whisky and to Boots for non-alcoholic drinks. It was rather wet and cold but flowers were blooming and some trees were flowering. Back to the Caley for pre dinner drinks.
Had dinner at Pompadour the dining room at the Caley.
