Ralph Fiennes at Royal Haymarket Theatre

We had tickets to the matinée performance of “Grace Pervades” at the Royal Haymarket Theatre. We went to the Royal Haymarket to see “Waiting for Godot” in 2024. Before the play we had lunched at the restaurant Farzi which we enjoyed so we wanted to return.

First we stopped to look at the Fourth Plinth in Trafalgar Square. The display changes from time to time. This one is by Teresa Margolles. It’s description:

Mil Veces un Instante is made up of plaster casts of the faces of 726 trans, non-binary, and gender non-conforming people. The casts were made in Mexico City and Juárez, Mexico; and London. She worked closely with community groups across Mexico and the UK, including Micro Rainbow and QUEERCIRCLE. The casts have been created by applying plaster directly onto the faces of participants, meaning that as well as recording their features the plaster is infused with their hair and skin cells.

Weather during our holiday has been cool, sometimes rainy and almost always windy. Suddenly we’re getting heat. It was in the lower 20s but in the sun it was warm for me. We couldn’t sit long in Trafalgar Square without getting too hot so we wandered around nearby Waterloo Place. Below is the column for the Duke of York (son of King George III) not the former Prince named Andrew.

The Royal Haymarket Theatre is getting a face lift.

Farzi restaurant features North Indian cuisine which is not what we usually find in Calgary. It was very tasty. Below lamb raja and accompaniments.

Chicken biryani which Scott found as hot as he comfortably could eat but our server said it was very mild.

The play, Grace Pervades, by David Hare, is about the 25 year relationship from 1878 to 1903 between theatre producer and actor Henry Irving and actress Ellen Terry.

The theme is about why actors do theatre. It was quite funny but also featured Ralph Fiennes and his co-star Miranda Raison performing vignettes from Shakespeare which were very impressive.

We over did the wine purchasing earlier in the week and have been overeating so we cooked our own dinner in the apartment to reduce the number of full wine bottles and to have a lighter meal. Below a rather pricey for blended Italian wine which was meh but has a pretty label.
