After a late breakfast, we walked leisurely into the town following the path that is next to the main road next to the park.

The Flesk River:

There are three churches in Killarney. The Methodist is the smallest. The largest is, not surprisingly, the Catholic cathedral, although not particularly large, called St. Mary’s. In a lack of imagination moment, the third church, a Church of Ireland church, is named St. Mary’s, but not a cathedral. We walked to the cathedral, which also is the tallest church.

Disappointingly, for me, the church is not very old. It was started in 1842 but famine and the resulting lack of funds meant the building was not finished until 1907, although it has been used for worship since 1855. Lots of local stone used for the construction, which is another sign of the limited funds for construction.

From there, we wandered to the centre, which the receptionist at our hotel described as four streets.

Killarney has a Laurels pub, Scott’s pub and a Lord of the Rings themed pub called The Shire. Scott declared whichever one we found first, we would go in for lunch.

After lunch, we walked out the back door of the pub, across a car park, and found Scott’s Bar which is part of Scotts hotel and on Scott Street.

Taking a tour in a horse drawn carriage seems to be a popular thing here. They call them jaunting cars.

Met up with our Edinburgh friends. Did not take photos of our dinner at The Mad Monk, which had very good seafood. But after we went to Buckley’s Pub, the family of Jesse Buckley who won best actress at the Oscars this year. They had live Irish music.
