Anniversary in Vancouver

We celebrated our 43rd wedding anniversary in Vancouver. We’ve been going to the Post Hotel — which is great — but there’s not a lot to do in Lake Louise in July other than hiking.

Our quick jaunt did not start well when our Air Canada flight was cancelled due to a mechanical problem and we were rebooked through Edmonton with an almost 7 hour layover, which would result in missing the dinner reservation we had for our anniversary. We booked a one-way flight on WestJet and arrived about 2.5 hours later than planned and many dollars poorer.

Stayed at the Pan Pacific in a room with good views

Our anniversary dinner was at Hawksworth where they decorated our desserts.

The next day we went to the Jean Paul Riopelle exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery. It was informative as it covered the breadth of his career which included multiple media and styles.

Then lunch with friends, naps for some and art supply store shopping for others. For dinner, we went to Tetsu Sushi, a very small place where we had to wait outside until it was time for our reservation. Enjoyed watching diners and their dog across the street.

The restaurant only had tables to seat 10 diners and three seats at the bar.

Some of our sushi.

We took the long route back to the hotel by walking the waterfront.

The next day we had lunch with my brother and sister-in-law at pur favourite, Joe Fortes, where we received this dessert:

Then onto the Sky Train and back home—no flight cancellations. An active and social few days.
