Roma: day 28: last day

I left Calgary four weeks ago and other than a day trip to Anzio, I have been in Rome the entire time yet I still did not see and do everything I thought I might. In our one remaining day, I’m not going to be able to do it all.

After breakfast, Sidney and I went to Otaleg in Trastevere.

It’s definitely in the top three. If you want creamy gelato, it’s not the best but if you want intense flavour, it’s probably the winner.

We walked back along the Trastevere side.

I did a bit of shopping and we all started packing.

Then we went for a light lunch at the bakery, Forno Monteforte, where I’ve been grabbing breads for breakfast.

We had an afternoon spa appointment at Kami Spa in the St. Regis hotel which is near the first two apartments.

Sidney wanted a two gelato day so we returned to Come Il Latte another in my top three gelaterie.

We walked to very near the first apartment to the taxi stand we used when we were there. Our trip had literally come full circle.

Back at the apartment, we continued packing and sipping on the last of our wines.

For dinner, we headed out of Centro Storico to Bistrot 64. The former chef, Kotaro Noda, featured in Stanley Tucci’s Rome episode of Searching for Italy. Noda has since returned to Japan but the menu still has a Japanese influenced flavour. Unfortunately, it is no longer a Michelin star restaurant which we noticed. The service was not as good as Moma and some of the dishes were disappointing.

Vegetable amuse bouches
Beef cheek
Pumpkin three ways
Fish and broccoli kimchi

The above classic Roman pastas were, for me, over sauced.

Roasted pork and greens
Cod in ramen broth
Pasta with chicken and bell pepper sauce
Peanut, milk chocolate, gelato, yuzu and hazelnut cake

The dessert was a good finish and then it was back to the apartment to finish packing and prepare for the long trip home.
