Roma: day 12: Christmas Eve: last of the arrivals

Inge and Robin arrived in the early afternoon to complete our group of seven. Christmas was ready to really begin.

To stretch our legs, we went to nearby Santa Maria della Vittoria to look at Bernini’s Cornaro chapel. The central sculpture is The Ecstasy of Saint Teresa of Avila depicting a scene from her writings where she describes an angel piercing her heart and filling it with Divine love.

But the entire work includes the architecture and the side sculptures showing the Cornaro family members looking at the central scene.

The church has a presepe.

Nearby is the Moses fountain—not one of Rome’s greatest artworks.

Up close we were reminded of Gimli from Lord of the Rings.

Our dinner was at Baccano. The walk there took us past the Trevi Fountain—one of Rome’s most famous artworks.

One happy family group photo.

The menu had lots of choice. Beef tartare prepared table side.
