Roma: day 11: food markets

Not a lot of photos for today because we went to the Termini Central train station where there was a new Eataly location.

Scott decided more sleep was his preferred way to spend the morning. On the way we could see the Bath of Diocletian behind Piazza Repubblica.

Eataly is inspired by the slow food movement to feature Italy’s food items. Sadly, the new location is just a place to eat with a temporary Christmas shop (which was mostly panettone). So we went to the nearby Mercato Centrale, which had some stalls which sold beef and pork, but no vegetable or fruit market or generally things you would need for cooking instead of eating on the spot. Termini station also has a large Conad, which is a supermarket, where we found some likely hard to find items like Worcestershire sauce.

We eventually decided to go to Campo de’Fiori market where I didn’t take photos because our arms were too full of vegetables, salami, chicken, fresh pasta, and fruit.

Then we decided after dumping everything at the apartment, to go to the main Eataly location where we could eat and shop.

We completed most of our shopping, then some returned to the apartment while I did more shopping. The food shopping occupied the kitchen and refrigerator.

Our dinner reservation for the evening had cancelled a few days earlier so I picked the closest restaurant to the apartment which had good reviews. It was called Anima in the Rome Edition hotel. Google maps misdescribed the location but it was still close. It turned to be a more casual restaurant by the chef of Pianostrada where we’re going to later.

We were underdressed for the upscale food.
