Giornata 58: Ultima domenica a Firenze

Next Sunday we have to catch a morning train to Milano. I had thought I would go to Pisa but changed plans because of the forecast for rain and the thought that this was my last Sunday.

I walked to Porta Romana, the south gate of the old city walls—the one which led to Rome.

Sights along the way:

Queue for free entry

Porta Romana

A former convent Convento della Calza is now a hotel and spa. The convent had a last supper by Franciabigio, the artist who worked with del Sarto. I went to the hotel reception and asked if I could see the fresco.

It is now (fittingly) in the hotel restaurant

One of the Boboli Garden entrances is nearby. It is the furthest entry from the Palazzo Pitti.

The Lemon House where citrus trees were and still are grown.

Late 17th century addition called the Basin

Arpi (harpy)

Lots of up and down

Good views

Stopped to sketch the Palazzina della Meridiana. This addition was the part of the Palazzo where Vittorio Emanuele lived when Florence was the capital of (semi)unified Italy.

view from the Palazzina

Added paint when I returned to the apartamento.
