Giornata 55: Piove, ancora

Another rainy day. A good day to not wander about.

After class I went to the Uffizi where I did some sketching. I walked right in and the rooms were busy but not crazy.

It was amusing to listen to people’s comments when they saw Artemisia Gentileschi’s Judith and Holofernes. Some were shocked, some thought it was Caravaggio and some were in awe. And some walked past with barely a glance.

Annibale Caracci’s work sometimes looks like a modern painter. His Beaneaters (in Rome) would be considered a genre painting but that classification is not applied to Renaissance paintings. His “Man with a monkey” unusally has a smiling person. Some think this might be a self portrait.

I spent time in the bookstore, not buying, but noting books I might try to find when I return home.

Our group met for happy hour at Alessi, rated the best wine shop in Florence. I love the selection.

Something I don’t think I have described is the pensile scolapiatti in this apartment. The cupboard for plates and glasses is set up like a draining rack over the sink. Great space saver.
