Giornata 15: Ponte Vecchio

The last class of the week only goes for the morning although in our case, our instructor Michele let us carry on until 2:30 so 4 1/2 hours of sketching the Ponte Vecchio.

We started in the shade of the arcade along the north bank of the Arno but the temperature got to 33 and the sun eventually was shining into the arcade. Sketching goes slowly when you have to take shade breaks.

I tried to limit my composition.

Still didn’t finish.

This area is a very popular spot for guided tours groups. As we were working, one Italian guide said, “Look, here’s Leonardo da Vinci at work”.

The American woman had to leave early but we took group photos of the rest of us.

After, the four women went for lots of water and a cooling salad for lunch and wandered around some of the markets.

We later met for dinner at Trattoria Za Za, next to Mercato Centrale. It’s a very popular spot.

It has been so hot these past two days that I’ve needed to shower both morning and afternoon. But after a leisurely dinner with my art classmates, the evening finally turned comfortably cool. The top photo is of the Duomo as we were heading home after dinner. It was a lovely end to a week of sketching.
