Renting heat in Mexico

We arrived at Sandos Playacar, a resort near Playa del Carmen, for a week. We made no plans as we just wanted to enjoy warmer weather and some rest in the outdoors.

Calgary’s snow had mostly melted when we left.

But it returned the next day.

Meanwhile we sat outside.

Two novels read within three days:

The pelicans have provided entertainment.

They are quite large and ignore the people around them.

We have also seen agouti or agutì, rodents that look like guinea pigs or, if they were larger, capybara.

They have walked and ran across the grass by our little patio each late afternoon while we were sitting and reading.

The resort has 8 or 9 restaurants. The international buffet was not great—long queues for the more interesting looking selections. The slice of pizza I sampled was like frozen pizza from my childhood—biscuit-like crust and bland toppings.

The gourmet Mexican was better

Scott tried the local style build your own taco—so many filling choices for only two tortillas.

The French restaurant was decent with a southern French focus. Scott had bouillabaisse while I had lamb and ratatouille (no photos).
