Quarantunesimo giorno: last day in Ottawa

For our last day in Ottawa, we had no plans. We just wanted to visit with Allie and Carmen as we will not see them at Christmas.

I finished reading my London book purchase, registered it on BookCrossing.com and found it a home in a little free library nearby.

The apartment building has a rooftop barbecue area, but the weather was not promising for outdoor cooking.

We met Allie and walked to a nearby Vietnamese restaurant for pho. This area is close to Chinatown and a few blocks from a large number of small Vietnamese restaurants. This one was located in a small house. It started to rain as we walked and continued raining all day. However, the spots on Scott are not rain—but soup.

We visited at our apartment and cooked our market purchases for dinner. We started with a hearty sourdough bread from the market and the cheeses leftover from my last London room service order. The apartment was supplied with enough cooking equipment that we pulled together steak, potatoes, gravy, sauté mushrooms and roasted bell peppers and onions. Nellie entertained us.

We definitely did not cook on the rooftop but we visited the Wag Zone.

The apartment was not as luxurious as many of the hotels we stayed at this vacation, but it has been convenient to have a kitchen, the extra bathroom, and amenities for a dog. Most importantly, it is a short walk to Allie and Carmen’s home.

It had been an easy going day but it was a work night for Allie and Carmen, and Nellie was exhausted from all the entertaining she had to perform. I was feeling jet lagged. We called it an early night.
