We explored the sights nearby. First we went to the only surviving medieval gate of the old city walls, Porta Soprana:

Once we walked through the motorcycle park, we passed the house of Christopher Columbus:

Sat at a cafè on the other side of the gate where we sketched.

Elvis kept his eye on Scott:

From there it was a short walk to San Lorenzo, the main cathedral of Genova. It’s surrounded by buildings making it hard to see the sides of the structure.

View of the front from the piazza:

The church was open but you could not walk down any of the aisles.

Parts were unusually without decoration. I haven’t read that it was damaged during the war but it looks like there has been some kind of damage.

Lunch was nearby outside:

Another seafood soup for Scott; vegetable soup for me:

Wandered to a Grom for gelato then strolled around:

Looked inside the Palazzo Ducale where they seemed to be setting up for a book fair:

The posters of book jacket art includes Ernest Hemingway “The Old Woman and the Sea”. I think some translation mistake occurred.
The fountain in the Piazza de Ferarri has been off since Monday.

Dinner was at the hotel’s Giotto restaurant. The painter Giotto, as far as I recall, was never in Genova or has any significant work here.

A vegetable starter that tasted better than it looked:

Lamb:

Rabbit which Daniela told us is very common here:

No photo of the semi-freddo dessert. Then off to pack up.
